Hope you all had a wonderful turkey day! Ours was weird. On Thursday, we went to Mark's mom's and had jambalaya. How traditional! But it was fine.
My family usually celebrates Thanksgiving on Friday, because so many people have to be two or three places on Thursday. But this time, my aunt and uncle and their daughter & family went to St. Louis to have Thanksgiving at their other daughter's house. Then my brother's whole family got a nasty stomach bug. So we pushed our holiday back to Sunday.
Unfortunately, Scott's family was still sick. So Thanksgiving was just my folks, Mark's mom, and the four of us. A little strange, but bonus!
I made Aunt Molly's Spinach Casserole, which I dearly love. It's just not a holiday without that dish. And I made up a sweet potato dessert that turned out really well. Nothing like making up a recipe from scratch for a major holiday, but it was good. Now if only I could remember how I made it!
The kids are doing well, overall. Lauren had nightmares last night, so I was up with her several times between 1 and 2. Mark was up with her twice too. Then Sam was up at 3:30, and it took me a while to settle him back down after he nursed. I was up for good at about 6:15 or so, nursing Sam again and then getting Lauren ready for school. I could use a nap. Doesn't seem likely.
Caffeine is my friend.
I took Lauren out last night to spend some of her allowance and for supper, just us girls. But her swim class was cancelled due to the weather, so we headed on back home after that. Sam was very fussy when we got back, but I nursed him and he settled down pretty quickly. Nursing is magic like that, most of the time. He's growing like a weed, and much more alert and aware of his surroundings. He even likes it when I sing to him - he just stares at me intently.
Kid has no taste in music!

Yesterday was another extremely fussy day. In other words, Sam awake=screaming.
Just when you think you can't take any more, something good usually happens. This morning, Sam gave me his first "real" smile. I was holding him, talking and singing to him, and he just grinned at me.
It's all worth it, you know.

So what's new with you?
I have a hard time getting online lately, sorry for the lack of posts. Sam keeps me busy all day long, seems like, and then I crash at night. He's doing pretty well at night, usually getting up once or twice and settling back down pretty easily. Last night he just got up once at 3:30, I nursed and changed him, and we were back asleep by 4:15 or so.
He was awfully fussy in the last couple of weeks, so I took him to the doctor last week just to make sure he didn't have anything actually hurting him. He didn't, just colic. There were a few days there that if he was awake, he was screaming. And he was waking up out of a solid sleep to start screaming. That kind of gets to you after a few hours, kwim? But he's doing better now, I think.
While we were at the doc's, he was weighed.
9 pounds, 14 ounces. That's about 2 pounds in three weeks! Great weight gain, huh?
No wonder my arms are tired!

Jill and Sam's Excellent Adventure
Tuesday, November 01, 2005
Cute post title, no?
So anyway, Sam the Man and I had a great adventure yesterday. We went up to my office to see and be seen. Man, I miss work! That would be much easier than dealing with a three week growth spurt. But it was much fun to see everyone, and show off Sam, of course. He was an angel, as usual.
Trick or treat last night, of course. Sam and I stayed home and handed out candy. Mark took Tinkerbell out to forage for treats. She had a blast, and has enjoyed eating her candy, mostly the chocolate variety, of course. I love handing out the candy! Next year I'll have to dress both of them up. What a weird thought. I'm still getting used to being a mommy of two, I suppose.
Hope you all have a great day!
