Daddy Day

Happy Father's Day! I'm lucky - I have an incredible dad, and I'm married to the most amazing father. We've been down at the lake this weekend, and had much fun. This morning, we got to see the joy on Lauren's face when her daddy loved the gift that she dreamed up and created for him. A box for the tv remotes - how handy is that? She was so intense about her project, and did a great job making it, keeping it secret, and decorating it. He, of course, loved it and will keep it forever.
My dad and I were sitting out on the back deck, watching Mark drive Sam around in the golf cart, and they were having fun. Dad said "Do you know how lucky you are? You can just see how much he loves these kids. Mark is such a great father."
Takes one to know one.
Here's a great quote, from
Healthy Children:
"Sherman made the terrible discovery that men make about their fathers
sooner or later... that the man before him was not an aging father but
a boy, a boy much like himself, a boy who grew up and had a child of
his own and, as best he could, out of a sense of duty and, perhaps
love, adopted a role called Being a Father so that his child would have
something mythical and infinitely important: a Protector, who would
keep a lid on all the chaotic and catastrophic possibilities of life."
- Tom Wolfe, The Bonfire of the Vanities
